Bottoms Up!, 1967

It doesn’t get fresher than this. In this photograph, Sergeant George Nemosbatho takes a drink of coconut milk directly from the source. If only for a moment, there is a tropical reprieve in Nemosbatho’s search and seizure mission in the midst of war.

Sergeant George Nemosbatho (Detroit, MI), mortar Platoon Squad Leader, 1st Battalion, 12th Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), takes a drink of fresh coconut milk during a break in the search for the enemy.

Members of Det “A”, 5th Special Forces Group, located north of Saigon in War Zone D, are served their Thanksgiving Day dinner a little in advance of “Turkey-Day”. With two regiments of North Vietnamese Regulars in the vicinity, it is unlikely the men will have a quiet Thanksgiving Day. Prepared at a distant base, the complete hot meal was flown in by helicopter during a lull in the fighting.
