This Pride month I would like to address a neglected bit of history on this blog. I will be highlighting the service of LGBT+ veterans in Vietnam. Members of the LGBT+ community have always served in the United States military and will continue to do so. Arguments made against their ability to serve, and to serve openly and with pride, are made out of prejudice and bigotry rather than fact.

As a bisexual transgender man, I understand the struggles faced in living as your true self. I understand the feeling of being the target of hatred and of prejudiced policies. I also understand the importance of seeing others like me represented in history. Too often the LGBT+ identity of individuals who contributed to historical moments is downplayed, or sidelines them in the larger narrative. These folks deserve to be recognized.

To those LGBT+ veterans out there, thank you for your service. I hope that you have found peace in your life, with yourself and with others.

I think I’ll be able to put out at least two posts a day on this for the entire month. Let me know if you would like to see more and I’ll try to make it happen.

hey, are you gonna use a specific tag for these posts? i don’t wanna miss any

All LGBT+ posts made this month will carry the #Pride Month tag. They will also have the #LGBT+ tag. Thanks for asking!
